Mentally Disabled Woman Found Living in Siblings' Shed

A brother and sister have been arrested after their mentally disabled sister was found living in their shed in the backyard of their home. When detectives and police officers responded to a 911 call about an argument involving family members at the home, they found ‘Amelia’ in the backyard. Officers began questioning her and asked her where she lived. ‘Amelia’ responded with in the shed. Many neighbors in the area knew that she lived in the shed in the backyard but didn’t realize how bad the conditions actually were. The brother and sister of ‘Amelia’ were arrested on grand theft charges for not using the $700 per month that came for ‘Amelia’ via social security on her care but using it for themselves.

‘Amelia’ said she lives in the shed because there is no extra room in the house for her, her brother and sister plus seven pit bull dogs. That is why she has to live in the shed with a child’s commode and an electric heater with a frayed wire that rarely works. Responding officials and doctors that later examined ‘Amelia’ said that there were no apparent signs of abuse or starvation of ‘Amelia’ or that she was being held in the shed against her will.
