Misdiagnosis Leads to Amputation of Woman's Hands, Feet

A woman that entered a hospital with what she thought was a kidney stone, left the hospital as a quadruple amputee and is now filing a multi-million dollar medical malpractice lawsuit against the hospital. Thirty two year old Tabitha Mullings checked into the Brooklyn Hospital Center on September 14, 2008 complaining of kidney pain. She was examined and given pain killers and sent on her merry way back home. Mullings returned the next day and was diagnosed with an infection called sepsis. It blocked circulation to her hands, feet and right eye. Doctors amputated both of her hands, both feet and she was left blind in her right eye.

Her lawyers claim that she wasn’t screened or examined properly during her initial visit to the hospital, when she entered complaining of kidney pain, which she thought was being caused by a kidney stone. She has filed a multi-million dollar medical malpractice lawsuit against the hospital for negligence regarding her situation, pain and suffering and the medical bills incurred by the surgery.
