Dewight Cameron’s trial date is set for next year in the beating death of his girlfriend’s two year old son and beating the boy’s twin brother. His girlfriend also faces trial for child endangerment. Cameron’s trial date hearing was in late November and had his trial date set for January 20th of the new year. Cameron was arrested for killing the two year old son of his girlfriend, Shaneekwa Saunders, at the couple’s home while babysitting. He told a neighbor early on the morning of September 19th that one of the children he was watching stopped breathing. Cameron is being charged with first degree felony murder and two counts of aggravated battery and child abuse.
The child, Damion Thompson, died at a hospital the next day while his twin brother was beaten on the head and torso but did survive. The autopsy performed on Thompson showed that he had been beaten on the liver and pancreas previously but had survived those beatings. Another two children were removed from the house, including a three year old that showed signs of previous abuse and an eight month old girl that did not show signs of abuse.
